The African Democratic Congress (ADC) says it does not trust the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to protect its votes in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during an interview on Monday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the party’s position is based on its experience during the 2023 elections.
He explained that many candidates relied on INEC’s promise that election results would be transmitted automatically to the IReV portal, but the commission later blamed a technical glitch for the failure.
According to Abdullahi, that experience has made the party more cautious ahead of the 2027 elections.
He said ADC is already putting plans in place to monitor, protect, and collate its own results directly from polling units across the country instead of depending entirely on INEC.
“If the results at the end of the day reflect the true votes that came from the polling units, we will accept them. But if they do not, we are not going to accept them.”
He added that the party believes keeping its own record of results will help it compare the final outcome announced by INEC with the figures obtained from polling units.
