Parties await official declaration by INEC
The Governor of Osun State and Accord Party Candidate, Ademola Adeleke, has secured 19 Local Government Areas while his closest rival, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, got 11 LGAs, according election results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Tripod Times reports that official declaration is being awaited from the electoral umpire, following the collation of results on Sunday, with the Vice-Chancellor of FUOYE, Professor Joshua Ogunwale as the returning officer.
Though the Independent National Electoral Commission had said 2,339,233 residents were registered to vote and the race featured 15 political parties, the contest had been seen by observers as fierce among the incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji of the APC, and Najeem Salaam of the ADC.
Governor Ademola Adeleke secured decisive victories in major urban and population hubs, winning Osogbo LGA and Iwo LGA with wide margins.
Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) put up a fierce fight, officially claiming Obokun LGA and showing massive dominance at former Governor Rauf Aregbesola’s polling unit in Ilesa.
Highlighting strict enforcement, INEC has officially cancelled results in specific polling units within Ife Central due to recorded irregularities.
Live trackers from Dataphyte’s Election Dashboard show that voter participation increased compared to the previous cycle, with more than 1.1 million votes already captured in the electronic pipeline.
