A key electoral exercise is underway, with both the PDP and the ruling APC now uploading their nominees for governorship and state House of Assembly races for the 2027 general elections.
Tripod Times reports that, in compliance with the Independent National Electoral Commission’s schedule, political parties had already submitted the nomination lists for their presidential and National Assembly candidates between June 27 and July 11, 2026. The process also included the submission of Forms EC9 and EC9A to EC9E, as required under Section 29(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026.
Further down the INEC calendar, candidate particulars for presidential and National Assembly races come out on August 8, while those for governorship and state assembly contests follow on August 29. It also sets August 22 as the deadline for the withdrawal or substitution of presidential and National Assembly candidates, while governorship and state House of Assembly candidates have until September 19 to withdraw or be substituted.
According to an APC insider, the party has commenced the upload of its candidate list onto the INEC portal, giving priority to its 16 incumbent governors seeking re-election – namely, Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), Hyacinth Alia (Benue), Uba Sani (Kaduna), Abba Yusuf (Kano), Dikko Radda (Katsina), Nasir Idris (Kebbi), Umaru Bago (Niger), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), Ahmed Aliyu (Sokoto), Agbu Kefas (Taraba), and Dauda Lawal (Zamfara).
A total of 28 governorship candidates and 993 state Assembly aspirants are due to be uploaded by all political parties—including the PDP and APC—though the governorship contest will not feature in eight states (Anambra, Bayelsa, Edo, Ekiti, Imo, Kogi, Ondo, and Osun) where off‑cycle elections apply.
