The people of Uburu, Ohaozara LGA, Ebonyi State, are remembering nurse Mary Habila as a compassionate, diligent, and selfless caregiver—a loss they say has cast a shadow of mourning over the entire community.
According to community members, she was greatly respected for her modesty, even-temperedness, and generosity, and her frequent participation in local affairs further deepened her bond with residents.
Habila, who was attached to the office of the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, reportedly died while residing in the staff quarters at the minister’s official residence, where she was posted in the course of her duties.
Chief Nicholas Onu, President-General of Eweze Uburu Autonomous Community, noted that Habila was often mistaken for a community native due to her unfailing participation in Minister‑attended programmes, and she was equally known for her role on the medical team delivering first‑aid and emergency care at empowerment and community events.
He added that many residents came to admire her for the devoted care she gave to women, children, and other attendees at those events.
