The First Lady of Imo State, Chioma Uzodimma, has said that there is nothing wrong in husbands cooking for their family, insisting that parents must teach their sons and daughters how to cook.
The recent controversy over domestic gender roles by the wife of the Governor in a statement that has since gone viral, generated reactions from Nigerians asking who actually owns the kitchen.
According to the Firstlady, raising children with practical life skills should be without regard to gender, saying cooking should be treated as a basic competence rather than a specially assigned role.
“There is nothing wrong with a husband cooking for the family,” she said. “Women should also teach both their sons and daughters how to cook. No rule says only women should cook for the family,” the firstlady added.
Uzodimma has therefore appealed to traditional and religious leaders to correct the erroneous harmful cultural practices that continually draw back the female folk.
