ABUJA, Nigeria — Drama ensued at an official examination center in Abuja when a 33-year-old man was apprehended while attempting to write the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) civil service promotion examination on behalf of his biological father.
The suspect, whose identity is being withheld pending ongoing administrative profiling, was caught by eagle-eyed invigilators during a routine biometric and credential verification exercise. The test was organized to screen civil servants eligible for career advancement within the FCT Administration.
The Unraveling of the Scam
According to security sources at the venue, discrepancies were noticed when the passport photograph on the examination clearance card failed to match the physical appearance of the 33-year-old candidate sitting in the hall. Upon intense interrogation by the supervisors, the suspect confessed that his father, a civil servant nearing retirement, sent him to take the promotional assessment to secure a higher grade level and pension layout.
FCT Reacts and Vows Sanctions
FCT authorities have condemned the incident, describing it as a desperate act of impersonation that undermines the integrity of the public service. The administration reiterated that strict disciplinary actions, including outright dismissal from service for the father and prosecution for the son, will be enforced to deter future occurrences.
The suspect has been handed over to law enforcement agents for further investigation.
