The Federal Government has joined Nigerians and the entertainment industry in mourning the death of veteran Nollywood actor and film executive, Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, popularly known as Olu Jacobs.
Jacobs died on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at the age of 84. His death was announced by his family, with his son, Olusoji Jacobs, confirming the news in a social media post.
The Federal Government described the late actor as a significant figure whose contributions to Nigeria’s creative industry would continue to be remembered. Reports of the government’s condolence were published on Wednesday as tributes poured in from across the country.
Jacobs built a career spanning theatre, television and film, both in Nigeria and abroad. He trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London before becoming one of the prominent figures in Nigeria’s film industry.
He was also recognised with the national honour of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) in 2011 for his contribution to the arts.
His death has triggered tributes from government officials, industry colleagues and members of the public, many of whom have highlighted his influence on generations of actors and the wider Nigerian entertainment industry.
Tripod Times reports that Jacobs’ passing marks the end of an era for one of Nigeria’s most recognisable acting careers, while his body of work continues to form part of the country’s entertainment history.
