Smart NYSC: Minister Praises New Tech Move to Stop Fraudsters

ABUJA — The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, has commended the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for its aggressive deployment of digital innovations to curb certificate racketeering and fraudulent activities within the scheme.

Tripod Times reports that the commendation was given in Abuja during a working session with the NYSC leadership. The discussion focused heavily on the technological milestones the NYSC has achieved to restore total transparency to its mobilization, registration, and deployment processes.

Public Resistance Overcome by Efficiency
Speaking on the transition, Dr. Alausa highlighted that the digital shift was initially met with intense skepticism but has ultimately proven its worth.

“When the NYSC first introduced these stringent digital measures, there was widespread public resistance and outcry from various quarters,” Dr. Alausa stated.

“However, today, that resistance has turned into overwhelming applause. By leveraging modern technology, the management has not only streamlined operations but has effectively shut the door against fraudulent elements trying to manipulate the system.”

Crushing Document Cloning
The Minister emphasized that the integration of digital tools has dealt a massive blow to syndicates that previously specialized in cloning deployment documents and extorting prospective corps members with fake posting letters.

“We cannot afford to let the integrity of our national institutions be compromised by tech-savvy fraudsters,” the Minister added.

“What the NYSC has done by introducing secure digital verifications, QR-coded call-up letters, and biometric synchronization is highly commendable. It shows that our institutions can stay three steps ahead of criminals if we prioritize innovation.”

A United Front Against Fake Degrees
The Ministry of Education is currently working hand-in-hand with the NYSC to integrate academic databases across the country, making it impossible for individuals with unverified foreign degrees or fake local diplomas to slip through the cracks.

“This is a collective fight,” Dr. Alausa noted. “Our ministry will continue to support the NYSC with the necessary policy frameworks to ensure that only qualified, legitimately graduated Nigerian youths are mobilized for this noble national service. The era of certificate racketeering is fast coming to an end.”
