No LASRRA, No School: Lagos Makes Resident Registration Compulsory for Students

LAGOS — The Lagos State Government has officially declared registration with the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) a mandatory requirement for the admission and enrolment of students into all public and private schools.

Tripod Times reports that the new directive, announced on Friday, September 4, 2026, will take effect on Monday, September 14, 2026, coinciding with the kickoff of the 2026/2027 academic session.

Under the dynamic policy rollout, all educational institutions operating below the tertiary level in the state are now required to obtain, verify, and log a unique LASRRA registration number for every single learner during the entry process.

Approved by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, the policy is being deployed through the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA). According to state officials, the primary objective is to build a comprehensive, verifiable database of learners across the metropolitan area.

Speaking on the initiative, Commissioner Alli-Balogun emphasized that tracking the student demographic through LASRRA will dramatically optimize allocation systems, including:

Record Keeping: Enhancing structural data integrity inside individual administrative offices.

Resource Optimization: Providing state planners with the exact localized population numbers needed to efficiently allocate budget infrastructure, instructional materials, and learning centers.

Student Safety: Establishing streamlined identity tracking and robust learner verification across all local education districts.

To minimize potential enrollment bottlenecks, the Director-General of the OEQA, Dr. Sulaimon Olagoke Ogunmuyiwa, revealed that his office is aligning directly with LASRRA to seamlessly generate and distribute unique identification PINs to incoming students.

Furthermore, the state government has explicitly reassured parents and school proprietors that the entire LASRRA registration process remains 100% free.

Addressing community concerns regarding bad actors, LASRRA General Manager Bilikis Adebiyi-Abiola cautioned families against patronizing extortionist third-party agents, urging the public to immediately report any operators demanding illegal payments for the baseline service.

The OEQA has confirmed that active compliance checks with the new rule will be integrated directly into the agency’s periodic quality assurance monitoring sweeps across both public and private school networks.

Parents and guardians are strongly advised to initiate and finalize their wards’ registration profiles on the official LASRRA Platform before the fast-approaching resumption date to avoid school placement disruptions.
