Senator Salisu Accelerates Ogun Central Digital Drive; Inspects Solar-Powered ICT Hub at Ishaga Orile

ABEOKUTA — In a major push to accelerate grassroots digital literacy and modern infrastructure development, the Senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, has stepped up project execution across local government areas, declaring that more critical community-based initiatives will hit the zone throughout September 2026.

Tripod Times reports that the commitment was reinforced following a meticulous field inspection of the ongoing solar-powered Digital Learning Centre situated at Ansarudeen Grammar School in Ishaga Orile, Abeokuta North Local Government Area.

The physical assessment, conducted on Wednesday by a delegation from the lawmaker’s office led by Hon. Fasiu Alimi, was executed to evaluate the quality of engineering, ensure structural integrity, and guarantee strict compliance with approved agency benchmarks before final delivery.High-Speed Tech for the Grassroots.

The high-tech facility is a direct 2025 intervention project of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) under the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, successfully facilitated by Senator Salisu to cushion the learning gap in non-urban communities.

Designed to operate entirely off-grid, the facility will boast a robust 24-hour solar power installation and free daily internet access.

By mitigating the recurrent issues of erratic electricity and high data costs, the centre will provide a conducive hub for local students and youth to seamlessly access online educational materials, complete research tasks, and build critical 21st-century digital competencies.

Speaking on the rollout, Senator Salisu—who serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity—disclosed that the Ishaga Orile facility is only a fragment of an extensive, district-wide infrastructure deployment strategy.

He revealed that an identical project inspection was carried out simultaneously at a community high school site in Ewekoro on Wednesday, with similar state-of-the-art ICT projects slated to spring up in Odeda, Obafemi-Owode, and other sister local governments before the end of the month.

The Senator emphasized that intentionally spreading these modern hubs across suburban and rural towns ensures equity, actively combating the historical trend of concentrating capital projects solely within urban city centers.

“For me, representation is not only about legislation; it is also about ensuring that meaningful development reaches our communities at the grassroots level,” Senator Salisu stated, underscoring his legislative mandate.

With Nigeria progressively moving toward a massive digital economy transition, the Senator noted that providing young people with unhindered tech access is no longer a luxury but an economic necessity.

Tripod Times reports that local leaders and educational stakeholders have lauded the steady rollout of these solar-powered hubs. Upon final commissioning, the network of learning centers is expected to vastly increase the region’s overall literacy margins and empower the next generation of Ogun Central youths to stay competitive in an increasingly automated global market.
