Legendary singer-songwriter, actress, and world-renowned philanthropist Dolly Parton has died at the age of 80.
The country music icon passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville, Tennessee, surrounded by her loved ones.
Tripod Times reports that according to an official statement released by her publicist, Marcel Pariseau, her departure came after she “bravely facing a brief battle with cancer,” a diagnosis that had previously been kept private from the public.
The heartbreaking news was first shared by her nephew and long-time head of security, Bryan Seaver, who posted an emotional video announcement representing the Parton and Owens families.
Her passing comes just over a year after the death of her beloved husband of nearly 60 years, Carl Thomas Dean, who passed away in March 2025. Before her death, Parton had acknowledged slowing down due to some accumulated health issues, but her team emphasized that her unconditional love for humanity remained her guiding force until her final moments.Born in rural Locust Ridge, Tennessee, Parton rose from humble beginnings as one of 12 children to become one of the most decorated and universally beloved performers in history.
Over a career spanning more than six decades, she composed over 3,000 songs, sold more than 100 million records worldwide, and penned timeless global anthems such as “Jolene,” “9 to 5,” and “I Will Always Love You”. Beyond her musical genius and multiple Grammy Awards, her legacy is permanently cemented by her extraordinary charity work, most notably donating hundreds of millions of books to children worldwide through her Imagination Library.
Tributes are pouring in from all corners of the globe as fans, political leaders, and the entertainment industry mourn a singular cultural force.
Music icons from Beyoncé to Sir Paul McCartney and Shania Twain have released deeply personal messages hailing her as a “North Star” and a beacon of humility.
In honor of her immense impact on American culture, flags at the White House were ordered to be lowered to half-staff.
According to her family, a private and intimate funeral service will be held to honor her memory. While the world processes the staggering loss of its most vibrant star, her team reminded the public that “sadness lies with us, not with Dolly—for Dolly has lived entirely in the light”.
