Governor Adeleke’s opponents in the APC accused him of quietly springing known offenders from jail using his prerogative of mercy, a charge his campaign team flatly rejected as false—maintaining he hasn’t wielded that power lately.
The APC alleged that Adeleke used his mercy power to free high-profile inmates recently—including murderers, a child rapist, and Small Rugged, who is now accused of post-release violence.
The Adeleke campaign’s Kolapo Alimi swiftly dismissed the APC’s allegations as pure fabrication, accusing the opposition of spreading lies to mislead the public and affirming that the governor had not exercised his mercy powers recently.
The council, in a statement by its Spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, said: “We find the controversial reinstatement of CP Ibrahim Gotan as the Commissioner of Police for Osun State very concerning, especially with the gross harassment, abuse of human rights and arbitrary arrest and detention of Accord Party chieftains and members under his supervision.
The campaign claimed IGP Disu reinstated Gotan just 72 hours after Etaifo was sent to replace him, allegedly bowing to APC pressure and limited Etaifo to election duties only.
