The NBC has says the revamped digital migration project is set to cover at least 40 million TV homes across Nigeria, providing up to 100 channels at no subscription cost.
NBC Director-General Charles Ebuebu made this known during an exclusive interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Abuja.
Ebuebu said the renewed DSO strategy had replaced the previous terrestrial transmission model, which achieved limited nationwide coverage.
According to Ebuebu, the former terrestrial model was deployed in eight states by the previous government, carrying between 24 and 28 channels based on the area.
Ebuebu said the renewed project already transmits more than 73 channels nationwide and targets 100 channels in the coming months.
In further explaining the operational structure, Ebuebu noted that the NBC continues to function as the nation’s broadcasting regulator, with oversight responsibilities covering all aspects of content and transmission standards. On the other hand, Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited has been assigned the critical role of delivering satellite connectivity and terrestrial ground services that underpin the entire Digital Switch Over framework.
