Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has approved the promotion of 18,984 teaching and non-teaching staff of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) for January and July 2026. The approval followed a request by SUBEB Executive Chairman, Yusuf Kabir, for N235.1 million to implement the promotions across the state’s 44 Local Government Education Authorities, with corresponding salary adjustments for the affected workers.
According to a statement by the Government House Director General, Media and Publicity, Sunusi Tofa, the affected workers are eligible staff whose promotions have been duly processed. SUBEB said the timely implementation would boost staff morale, career development and service delivery, noting that about 60,000 teaching and non-teaching personnel currently serve across the 44 LGEAs.
The government said the Yusuf administration inherited promotion backlogs of up to seven years, alongside another backlog spanning 18 months, but had previously cleared the outstanding promotions. It added that the 2026 promotion process had been completed, including staff verification and salary computation, while the Kano State Executive Council has ratified the latest approval, paving the way for the release of the funds.
