FCT Police Foil Jungle Justice, Rescue Suspected Child Abductor in Kuje

The FCT Police Command has rescued a man from an angry mob after he was allegedly accused of attempting to abduct a five-year-old child in Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.

According to the police, the incident occurred on October 4, 2026, at about 2:46 p.m., when operatives received a distress call reporting that an unidentified adult male was being attacked by a mob over an alleged attempted child abduction.

Police officers from the Kuje Division were immediately deployed to the scene, where they rescued the suspect, identified as Bashir Usman, from the mob, which was reportedly attempting to lynch him.

The FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said preliminary investigations indicated that Usman was being assaulted following allegations that he attempted to abduct a five-year-old child in front of her residence in Angwan Lado, Kuje Area Council.

She disclosed that the suspect had been taken into protective custody while investigations were ongoing to determine the full extent of his activities and identify any possible accomplices.

The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, condemned the act of jungle justice and warned residents against taking the law into their own hands.

According to the Command, mob action is a criminal offence and could amount to murder under the law.

The police also urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and pay close attention to the safety and well-being of their children and wards.
