Navy Warns Public Against Fake DSSC Recruitment Notices

The Nigerian Navy has warned members of the public against fake Direct Short Service Commission (DSSC) recruitment notices circulating on social media.
The Director of Naval Information, Captain Abi Folorunsho, issued the warning in a statement posted on his X handle on Tuesday. He said the notices, which advertise openings for DSSC Course 30 across medical, engineering, legal, ICT and other fields, were not issued by the Nigerian Navy.
Folorunsho stressed that the Navy’s DSSC recruitment exercise had not commenced, urging members of the public to disregard the notices and avoid falling victim to fraudsters. He said details of any genuine DSSC recruitment would be published on his official page, the Nigerian Navy’s website and its verified social media platforms.
The warning came a day after the Navy announced the commencement of its 2026 Batch 39 recruitment for the Nigerian Navy Basic Training School. The exercise is scheduled to run from October 2 to October 31, 2026, with eligible applicants required to apply through the Navy’s official recruitment portal.
The Navy also stated that the Batch 39 recruitment process is free and warned applicants against making payments to anyone claiming to facilitate their recruitment. It said applicants must be Nigerian citizens by birth, possess a National Identification Number and meet the specified educational, age, physical and medical requirements. The Navy clarified that the DSSC recruitment mentioned in the warning is separate from the Batch 39 Basic Training School recruitment.
