ABEOKUTA— The Senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, Alhaji Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, has challenged critics to a project-by-project verification tour across the zone, insisting that impactful representation is defined by tangible grassroots results rather than political rhetoric.
Addressing an expansive gathering of veteran media practitioners and broadcast journalists in Abeokuta on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, the federal lawmaker presented an exhaustive account of his stewardship. He outlined multi-sectoral projects cutting across the six local government areas of the senatorial district.
Tripod Times reports that the media briefing gave broadcasters a firsthand breakdown of how the lawmaker has translated his federal mandate into infrastructure, digital technology, trade support, and human capacity development back home.
Driving the Digital Revolution
Speaking passionately from his vantage point as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity, Senator Salisu emphasized that equipping the younger generation with technological leverage remains his highest priority.
The Senator highlighted the newly completed, world-class ICT Centre at the Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences, Abeokuta (FUMMSA) as a crowning achievements of his intervention. He noted that the center emerged as the very first fully completed facility on the university’s permanent site.
Turning to physical development, the lawmaker reeled out aggressive infrastructural additions aimed at bolstering safety and local economies. He pointed to the successful rollout of the fifth phase of his solar-powered streetlight initiative. The project has brought light to critical hubs, including the Oba Odeleye Park (Ori Omi) in Abeokuta North, the NLC Secretariat in Abeokuta South, and key commercial stretches within Ifo, Odeda, and Obafemi Owode local governments.
Addressing severe electricity challenges, Salisu pointed to his recent provision of high-capacity transformers. The intervention restored power grid consistency to seven interconnected communities within Abeokuta South alone, providing massive relief to thousands of small businesses.
Broadcasters were also briefed on the lawmaker’s direct economic cushioning programmes to protect micro-businesses from intense inflation pressures.
On education, the lawmaker mentioned the recent distribution of multi-million naira learning materials and registration support to over 2,000 secondary students, a gesture that recently earned him high-profile excellence endorsements from major student bodies like NANS Ogun JCC and NAOSS.
Concluding the interactive session, Senator Salisu commended the broadcasters for their steadfastness in separating facts from political fiction. He urged the media to remain unrelenting as social watchdogs, noting that public office holders must always be held to the standard of their verifiable scorecards.
“Effective representation begins with listening, but it is validated by doing,” Salisu affirmed. “The projects we have spread across these six local governments are not favours; they are the legitimate rights of our people, and I am fully committed to delivering even more”.
In attendance to support the lawmaker were key political heavyweights, including the Executive Chairman of Odeda Local Government, Hon. Dr. Folasade Waliat Adeyemo, and Engr. Babatunde Adesina, the Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Public Works, who also doubles as the Director General of the Senator Salisu Campaign Organization. Their presence heavily underscored the seamless synergy between Senator Salisu’s federal constituency interventions and Governor Abiodun’s state-level developmental agenda.
The media gathering concluded with an open floor interactive Q&A session where broadcasters raised questions regarding legislative oversight, and the Senator’s upcoming legislative schedule for the remainder of the calendar year.
