NO MORE SWEET TALK: COALITION CORNERS 2027 CANDIDATES IN OGUN POWER SHIFT

ABEOKUTA — With the 2027 general elections drawing near, the political playground in Ogun State is facing a massive shake-up as heavy-hitting coalition of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and veteran media figures officially cornered the state’s political structure by launching a strategic cross-examination platform named the “Ogun 2027 Conversation”.

Tripod Times reports that the bold initiative aims to completely strip down traditional, empty campaign rhetoric and force major actors into an uncomfortable zone: absolute accountability.

 Rather than waiting for the heat of the ballot cycle, the coalition is moving aggressively early to put candidates, electoral umpires, and security forces under a public microscope.

A Call to Collective Interrogation

Addressing journalists at the official press unveiling at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Iwe Iroyin Press Centre in Abeokuta, Comrade Yinka Folarin, the National President of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) and Chairman of the Ogun 2027 Conversations, laid down the law for upcoming campaigns.

Folarin made it clear that the upcoming political cycle cannot rely on the usual dirty tactics. He stated that politics should be conducted through dialogue and peaceful competition rather than division and violence.

He stressed that the 2027 elections must serve as an opportunity for citizens to examine leadership quality and the state’s future, describing the initiative as a call to collective responsibility that requires the active participation of all stakeholders.

Adding weight to the coalition’s mandate, prominent public affairs analyst and civil society operative Mr. Ola Animasaun also addressed the gathering. Animasaun threw down a challenge to the incoming political class, reinforcing that the era of political entitlement without programmatic substance is officially over. He emphasized that the initiative will act as an uncompromising filter, ensuring that only individuals with a genuine, measurable commitment to the socioeconomic advancement of Ogun State navigate the journey to the Oke-Mosan government house.

The Three-Pronged Trap

Organizers outlined a structured series of dialogues based on three key pillars:

* The Candidates’ Hot Seat: Direct conversations with civil society and media tracking gubernatorial and senatorial aspirants, requiring candidates to defend realistic blueprints.

* The INEC Watch: Relentless civic pressure on the electoral commission to ensure transparency.

* The Security Lockdown: Preemptive engagement with law enforcement to maintain neutrality and curb political thuggery.

*

As  political parties like the APC, PDP, ADC and SDP begin organizing their campaigns and policy agendas, this initiative aims to hold all aspirants strictly accountable.
