ABEOKUTA — The transport sector in Ogun State has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of a prominent union leader and Chairman of the Ogun State Park Management Services (OGSPAM), Alhaji Akeem Bodunrin, widely known as Iyeru.
Tripod Times reports that according to close associates and family sources, Iyeru passed away on Saturday evening at his home in Ogun State after he hosting transport union delegations from the Ifo, Ewekoro, and Imeko Afon branches in the afternoon, where he had passionately preached peace and unity across the state’s motor garages.
The exact cause of his sudden death has not yet been officially ascertained, and official statements from family representatives are being awaited.
As at the time of filing this report, family has not yet released the formal timetable for the burial arrangements, but sources close to the deceased indicate that as a practicing Muslim, his Islamic funeral rites (Janazah) and subsequent internment are expected to be conducted strictly within the next 24 to 48 hours at his residence.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command has reportedly increased visibility around key parks and strategic hubs in Abeokuta to maintain law and order and prevent any potential unrest among rival transport factions following the leadership vacuum left by his sudden passing.
Iyeru was a towering and influential figure in Ogun State’s transportation network. Over the years, he headed key mandates, including leadership roles associated with the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and later OGSPAM, navigating the complex dynamics of park management and stakeholder mediation across Ogun Central and Ogun West senatorial districts.
Tributes have since been pouring in across social and traditional media platforms from union members, transport executives, and sympathizers who recall his extensive involvement in grassroots mobilization and conflict resolution within the state’s transport corridors.
