LASU Probes Missing Grades Leaving Final-Year Students in Limbo

LAGOS — The management of Lagos State University (LASU) has launched a full-scale internal investigation into allegations that several lecturers failed to upload academic results, a development that has left over 100 final-year students stranded and facing an unwanted extra academic year.

Tripod Times reports that the controversy, which erupted on social media following the university’s recent convocation ceremonies, spotlighted severe administrative gaps within the institution’s Department of English.

Affected students alleged that they are being denied graduation not because they failed their courses, but because their course lecturers failed to upload their grades dating back to their 300-level academic session.

The issue gained widespread public traction after a whistleblower account on X (formerly Twitter), @TheAjakeManger, detailed how the affected final-year students were left heartbroken.

According to the online petitions, when students initially complained to the department, they were reportedly told to “trust the process” by the Head of Department (HOD).

However, as deadlines passed and graduation lists were finalized, the missing profiles remained unresolved.

The public outcry intensified with allegations that the issue spans wider than initially reported, with threats allegedly being issued to students who speak out.

Whistleblowers claim that current 400-level cohorts are facing similar setbacks and that the systemic failure could affect upwards of 1,000 students across the 200, 300, and 400 levels within the department. “Heartbroken is an understatement,” an affected student, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told reporters. “We paid our fees, attended classes, and passed our exams. Now we are being forced to pay extra tuition and waste a whole year of our lives because a lecturer couldn’t do his basic job.”

Responding swiftly as public outrage mounted, the university management issued a brief statement on its Official LASU X Handle on Saturday evening.
