… says students completing SS3 are exempt from the directive
The Anambra State Government has reiterated its ban on graduation ceremonies in primary and secondary schools.
Tripod Times reports that the ban, approved by Governor Chukwuma Soludo, applies to all graduation-related ceremonies in kindergarten, primary and secondary schools, whether described as graduation, passing-out or crossover events, in both public and private schools.
In a statement on Friday by the State Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr. Law Mefor, the measure is aimed at reducing the financial burden on parents, saying the clarification became necessary following inquiries and concerns from members of the public over the directive.
He, however, clarified that students completing Senior Secondary School (SS3) are exempt from the directive.
According to the Commissioner, “graduation ceremonies for students exiting Senior Secondary School are optional and, where held, must not involve any levy or financial demand on students or their parents.”
He also threatened that any school that violates the directive would not only face appropriate sanctions, but risk closure.
