The All Stars Football Association Abeokuta has kicked off its Four-Team Tournament, in a peaceful and sporting atmosphere on Saturday at the Muda Lawal Stadium, Asero.
The fixture featured Team Citadel Vs Blue Horizon FC and Team Ambassadors Vs Team Dynamo, with discipline and determination displayed throughout the encounter.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Government has been called upon to engage retired football players in the scheme of sports development.
The President All Stars Football Association Abeokuta Alhaji Akinbo Sally stated this in an interview with Tripod Times on Saturday 11th July 2026, during the match day 1 held at the Muda Lawal Station Asero, Abeokuta.
“I will suggest to the government to engage us during state or national sports festival,” Akinbo stated.
“All Stars Football Association comprises ex players, who have come together to exercise and enjoy after work. No matter your age, you still need to engage in exercises. “
“The tournament is a way to bring all members together. We have members from across the country, not just Abeokuta or Ogun State, Akinbo added.”

On his part, The LOC Chairman, Dr Praise Folaji informed that the tournament was meant to encourage friendship and fitness especially among elderly ones who have been away from active football for a long time.

One of the team captains, Bolaji Adisa said the four team tournament was also meant to unite the young and old using the round leather game.
“Our aims and objectives have been captured. We divided the entire membership into four teams. It is meant to make members appreciate one another and enjoy.”

“You could see members, old and young fighting to ensure that their team wins. This we have done without any rancour”, Adisa added.

At the end of the encounters, team ambassadors and team dynamo were held in a goalless draw. Similarly, team citadel and blue horizon FC played out a goalless draw in a well contested fixture.
The tournament continues with match day 2 fixed for Saturday 18th July, 2026 at the same venue. The tournament runs till Saturday 1st August, 2026.
