Pupils and their teachers kidnapped by suspected bandits in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State have regained freedom fifty days after abduction.
Tripod Times reports that the Special Adviser to the President on information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, let this out in a statement on his X handle on Friday, saying the victims were freed through the efforts of security agencies.
“Finally, the kidnapped pupils and teachers in Orire, Oyo, have been freed by their abductors,” Onanuga wrote.
Details surrounding their release, including whether ransom was paid or the circumstances leading to their freedom were sketchy as at the time of filing this report.
The abductions took place on May 15, 2026, when bandits attacked Community Grammar School, L.A. Primary School and Baptist Nursery and Primary School in the Esinele and Yawota Communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Seven teachers, a principal and no fewer than 39 pupils were whisked away.
